CHEESE BOX 69 –
Christmas 24
Welcome to our Cheese box 69 – Christmas 24!
Merry Christmas you lucky cheese lover!
Welcome to The Cheese Wheel and our movement to bring better NZ cheese to the people of NZ!
We have over 30 artisan cheesemakers in this country (most are profiled on our website thecheesewheel.co.nz if you’d like to know more about them). They use traditional techniques and modern equipment to experiment with traditional and also new styles. Like with wine and beer, there is now a rich variety of spectacular cheeses produced here in this country of green grass and (sometimes) gentle spring rain.
Many of NZ cheese makers are only able to sell at their farm gate or local farmers’ market and our job is to solve that problem – we provide a monthly subscription box just like this one that brings you an ever-changing curated selection of four cheeses to your door, sent the first Wednesday of each month. A cheese lover dream!
BLACK GARLIC & TRUFFLE LOG – FROM ANABELLE FINE CHEESE
You may have heard of ‘killer apps’ but this is a ‘killer cheese’ – a delicious sheep cheese taken to the next level with black garlic and truffle. Smear on a ripped piece of fresh baguette and enjoy with a glass of French champagne, light lager or artisan lemonade.

WALNUT AND FENUGREEK BEL PASO – FROM MERCER CHEESE
This award-winning cheese is made with late-season high-fat milk. It’s very creamy, crunchy, and tasty thanks to the chunks of walnuts and fenugreek seeds. Try it with a light whisky, a Sauvignon Blanc, or maybe even a ginseng tea. Great in a sandwich or just nibbled.
Region: Waikato. Type of milk: cow
BLUE MONKEY – FROM MOUNT ELIZA CHEESE
Blue Monkey is a Gold Medal-winning stilton-style blue that is rich and buttery. Eat it off your fingers, and pair it well with a good Riesling or a port, an IPA, a soft single malt, or a drinking chocolate.
Region: Bay of Plenty. Type of milk: cow
GERALDINE VINTAGE – FROM GERALDINE CHEESE
Paul at Geraldine Cheese is one of NZ’s most-experienced cheesemakers and it shows no matter what style he produces. Try this 3-year-old vintage cheddar with a Pinot Noir, a Porter, or a T2 Pu-Erh Chinese black tea, and your favourite Queen Anne chocolate.
