CHEESE BOX 44 –
JANUARY 23
Welcome to our Cheese box 44 – January 23!
Jones Family Farm – Yay! We start 2023 by introducing you to another artisan cheesemaker! You can read all about Tracey and Matt Jones and their Canterbury farm on our website, and then enjoy their cheese.
LE CREMEUX – FROM ANABELLE FINE FRESH CHEESES
We don’t want to take the romance and mystery, but ‘cremeux’ just means creamy. You’ll fall in love with this chic fromage, it’s a decadent smooth delight on crusty bread. Treat yourself to a quality NZ bubbles or be radical and match it with a Turkish-style apple tea.
Region: Auckland. Type of milk: cow.
ORGANIC MAASDAM– FROM THE CHEESE BARN
Maasdam was invented in the Netherlands as a cheaper alternative to Emmental, but then developed a life of its own. True to the style, this version is a little sweet and fruity. Great in a summer sandwich with a rose, a lager or a Limonata.
Region: Thames. Type of milk: cow.
GORGONZOLA – FROM VIAVIO
This is super smooth, delightfully nuanced cheese with a delicate flavour very much in the classic gorgonzola style. Wonderful on crusty bread too, but also next level on risotto or pasta. It’s summer so bust out a Prosecco or a light Peroni style beer or some sparkling water.
Region: Nelson. Type of milk: cow.
CLASSIC SHEEP MILK GOUDA – FROM JONES FAMILY FARM
We welcome the Jones Family Farm to the Cheese Wheel, and are excited to bring yet another NZ cheese maker to you! Everyone loves a good gouda – it’s been made for at least 800 years – and this is an excellent example of a sheep milk version with lots of lingering flavour. The cheesemakers suggest you match it with a Pinto Gris or a fruity kombucha, and we reckon a saison works too.
Region: Canterbury. Type of milk: sheep.
